About Our Company and the history behind our creation
|
In 1946, Thomas J. Anthoine Sr. started a small business
located in the bottom of a factory building in downtown
Lewiston,
Maine. He had an idea
to provide a service to the extremely busy and always growing shoe industry
in the state of Maine. He, along with
his wife Margaret, began a process directly related the creation of shoes
and boots which rapidly began to grow.

As the
years went on and the need for his services increased, he built our
manufacturing plant in the Anthoine
Industrial Park
. Fifty-two years later, we still carry out those services, and now many others, in the same manufacturing plant our founder created.
As the years passed, and the needs of industry began to change, we started to service our customer base with many different and specific products and services. As the domestic shoe trade began to somewhat decline, Tom Sr. recognized the need to diversify and began to offer protective clothing products so often needed in all major manufacturing plants. With his expertise in the foam and rubber business, he also started to market specialty services related to the cutting, splitting and fabrication of all types of foam, sponge and rubber products. Because of the ability to foresee how the needs of customers would change, we were able to continue to provide excellent service to a growing number of clients in any type of business or industry.
The start of the true "family business" came when Tom Sr.'s son, Tom Jr., joined the firm. From that point, the legacy was created and we became the business we are well known for today. Currently Thomas J. Anthoine, III is the President. The family has been committed to growth and will always make necessary changes to meet the diverse needs of todays industrial community.
Since its creation, the Thomas J. Anthoine Company has served commercial, industrial, institutional and governmental clients throughout New England, the United States and around the world with a full line of foam and rubber products/materials.
